As I was painting this the pose and the hair reminded me of Pre-Raphaelite art so I decided to continue in this style and use similar colours and imagery. When choosing the flower I decided on an anemone. In poetry and art the anemone represents anticipation and I thought this fitted well with the image. Pre-Raphaelite paintings are incredible and have a wonderful depth of colour that was produced by layering glazes of oil paint to build up luminosity. I have really enjoyed looking at these paintings and borrowing elements of them for this pastiche.
