The inspiration for this image was a photo taken by a friend of mine of her son looking out of a window. There were so many elements within the photograph that I felt I could use to convey a story. The trees were distorted through the panels of glass and I used this as a means of portraying a storm. I brought the trees towards the boy's head and the distortion made interesting patterns further accentuating the concept of a storm but this time within the child's mind. Though there is distress within the painting I spent a long time working on the expression of the child. I wanted to bring warmth in. The whole point of the piece is that there is hope despite the difficulties. The hand reaches out to offer a connection or perhaps he is asking for help.
