Firstly pieces of shiny blue paper were torn into fir tree shapes and placed on to a canvas. Magazines images of dense trees were then placed below them to form an area of intertwined branches and twigs. I then used heavy craft papers layered on to form the underlayer of the drifts of snow. To show the snow fallen on to the fir trees I used a sharp tool to etch our areas. White acrylic was painted between the branches of the lower tree line carefully so that the winding and twisting shapes were retained. Using a palette knife I merged the two tree areas with loose dark shapes and added further stark branches. To add to the heaviness of the snow lots of thick white paint was added to the edge of the road using the palette knife. The knife was also used to scrape across the texture of the canvas with paint to show the gritty roadway surface.
