This artwork is a drawing made using inky watercolour pencils on a smooth surface known as clayboard. This medium really suited the subject with its contrast of dark and vivid colours. I was able to build up layers of intense colour for the lanterns and then take away highlights to show the lights inside. When I first saw the photo that I worked from it struck me that the Chinese lanterns could be representing the young girl's hopes and dreams. In fact Chinese lanterns do actually signify a wish for a better and brighter future!
Giclee prints are made professionally using archival inks and paper. Different sizes are available.
