I have sold a number of kingfishers over the past few years and I love this one, showing the diving position. This painting was created using a photograph by Paul Elliott as reference and I changed the background to give the vibrant colours more contrast.
For this kingfisher diving I used soft pastel for the background, and pastel pencils for the feathers and details. The paper I use is Artspectrum Colourfix. The sharpened pencils create the detail and the background is blended using polystyrene sticks to give the three dimensional effect to the completed painting.
