This is a painting of John Butler, the renowned woodcarver, painted from a photograph taken in his studio. It is oil on wooden board. I wanted to create the atmosphere of his studio, which is full of interesting carvings and tools, and to do this I painted all the details realistically and in high definition. There is a carving of L.S. Lowry paddling on Blackpool Beach in the bag!
