This is a painting of my nephew Ira wearing his new glasses for the first time. I wanted it to be quite a dark and moody painting to capture the teenage angst. I used a base layer of acrylic paint and then added all the detail in oil, using brushes and my fingers to move the paint around and create different textures and marks. The light falling on the face highlights the dreamy look, and this contrasts with the darkness of the rest of the painting, creating the somber mood.
