I gather it's been a good year for puffins! This painting is a celebration of the North Atlantic puffin, or Tammie Norrie as Shetlanders call them. Painting them gives a great opportunity for complementary colours, the dashes of red & orange splashed against the blues & greens of the ocean. Some of them are just relaxing & looking good, while others are feeding sand eels to their young. I like the way two are looking up almost anxiously in anticipation of their friend's (crash?) landing. There are 15 puffins on this canvas, & a fine ship on the horizon, all framed with a simple cherrywood moulding.
