It is my best portraiture, I was truly tested when painting Lewis Howard Latimer #1. Reflecting upon my own STEAM (Science, Teaching, Engineering and Arts) career, Lewis Howard Latimer truly was an inspiration behind the scenes. The interesting notion, is I never taught Lewis Howard Latimer in the classroom. There were so many other African Americans I was focused on, until my independent teaching career came about, Lewis Howard Latimer found me, "You cannot ignore me any longer." He never said it of course, but he just showed up in front of me. The parallels of it all, he was self-taught, draftsman, inventor, painter, poet, teacher. Per integrated African American Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEAM) education. From now on, Lewis Howard Latimer is being taught all the time.
