This watercolour is one of a series featuring the people of Ghana, and documenting Ghana’s changing identity.
The man is a village Elder. The young goat he holds has been given to the village and will be a source of wealth for the community.
In the background is an adaptation of an ancient West African pattern, finished with gold leaf to represent the natural resources of Ghana’s Gold Coast. The ‘eyes’ represent the hopes of many who place their faith in a country in the vanguard of Africa’s thrust into the 21st Century.
