About this artwork

A colossal marble and a weeny marble. Who would win?

The game of marbles started with cave people, playing with small rounded pebbles or balls of clay. They have been found in the tombs of Egypt, in Native American burial grounds and in the ancient Aztec pyramids. Still played today, with the World Marble Championships being held every year since 1932.

To ‘lose one’s marbles’ came from the film The Caine Mutiny and coined by Humphrey Bogart
