Laura Jones

I have been working professionally as an illustrator and designer for the last 20 years, since graduating with a BA(hons) in Scientific and Natural History Illustration. The design side of my business can be found at www.veryvermilion.co.uk.

My work is inspired by the British Countryside, and I love to sketch birds and wildflowers. I am fortunate to live in an area of Lancashire which is both rural and coastal, and I enjoy exploring the diverse range of plants and animals that are found here.

I am a member of Luneside Artists' Studios in Lancaster, and enjoy taking part in exhibitions alongside other studio members. As a studio member I am also able to explore printmaking, and I look forward to adding this to my range of skills.

I mainly work in watercolour, but have recently rediscovered my love of coloured pencils, and I am currently working in a mix of coloured pencil, watercolour and pen to create some unique artwork.

I was absolutely delighted to have my work shortlisted for the 2023 British Art Prize.
