I am obsessed with watching dance of all types and I have just started a collection of dance based paintings. This one was quite challenging considering the size and number of figures and their rather complicated positions but I feel I have captured in some way the passion and expressive quality of the dancers and their rather wild abandon. I tried to avoid the chocolate box image of classical ballet dancer and instead concentrate on movement and the way the dancers fit around eachother forming interesting negative shapes
