Carmen Theresa Jane Baboolal was born in West London in 1967 and has lived in West London all her life. Carmen has a vibrant family background with influences drawing from her Chinese, Indian, Guyanese, Caribbean, Irish and English roots.
Carmen is a self-taught Artist who discovered a passion for painting during Art lessons at School. Her other creative passions include Pottery, Woodwork, Metalwork, Sewing, Writing, Poetry, Music and Acting.
Her artwork focuses primarily on Portraits, Landscapes and other interesting subjects in Watercolour and Acrylic. Her style is Abstract, Impressionistic, Bold and Colourful. Painting and Sculpture is therapy for Carmen and is bringing peace, meditation, calm and a fresh career doing something she has always had a passion for and adores.
Carmen enjoys the work of Sir Frank Bowling, Monet, Van Gogh, Paul Dash, Mark Rothko, Turner, Constable, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy, Hew Locke, Johnny Depp and Curtis Holder to name a few…
Carmen created and collaborated with 64 Million Artist’s & Carer’s UK to help produce a workpiece to support members with their well-being which was used during June 2023 with wonderful results.
Carmen contributed to Circa Art (The Cultural Institute of Radical Contemporary Arts) & Black Cultural Archives with a piece of work called “Arrival: In Honour of The Windrush Generation” celebrating the 75th Windrush Anniversary which showed daily on the Piccadilly Lights, Piccadilly, London at 8.23 pm each night in June 2023 for one month.
Shortlisted by David Remfry RA for the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2023 with the Theme “Only Connect” from 16,500 other Artists to exhibit. The abstract Portrait Watercolour was sold at private viewing before the general public could view it.
