This painting developed after a lot of preparation in my sketch book: experiments to find the right method for scraping back layers of paint to reveal the light source of the canvas and the effect of a print on canvas. What appeared as I scraped became a fast flowing river in a dark forbidding forest: no light source and no dawn awakening.
