Born out of a life-long love of the natural world my process-led, and often archival, inter-disciplinary practice seeks to explore and question our human perception of the fungal kingdom within a speculative (Mycocenic) future in which we become companion species by situating my practice within the Disruptive Realism movement. Artistic, and personal, immersion with the fungal kingdom is seen through a usage of soft pastel and composite images which have evolved through the observation of fungi grown within my studio or within local ecosystem therefore speak of my own personal perceptions, emotional responses and a deep connectivity to my subject that is disrupted by the distractions of contemporary life. The resulting work is often deliberately complex or confusing as it seeks to question and create dialogue surrounding our inter-species fungal-human relationship and which ultimately speaks of our prehistoric beginnings.
