Suzanne Hay

I was born in South Wales and moved to London in 1990 when I joined the Metropolitan Police Service. I eventually settled in Hertfordshire when I married my husband 15 years ago. We have two beautiful children who are the subjects of many of my paintings. I have been painting in watercolours since 2001 when I enrolled at the Insight School of art. Although I paint a variety of subjects, I find the delicate, translucent qualities of watercolour perfectly suited to painting childrens's portraits. Each portrait takes about 4-6 weeks to complete. I work from high quality photographs, painting layer upon layer allowing each to dry thoroughly before applying the next. My prefered size to work on is A2. I work with the client to decide on an image, offering advice on suitability. Once an image has been chosen and a simple contract agreed, a deposit of 20% is required before work starts. Although each commissioned portrait is priced individually, the average price for a single A2 portrait is £300.00. If for any reason, I am unable to fulfil my contract, the deposit will be fully refunded.
