The title of this work was prompted by Robert Frost's famous poem which relates to the impermanence of life, the fleetingness of the moment. The young woman with golden hair symbolizes youth, she is supple and fresh and beautiful right now at this moment but "only so an hour" because as a part of nature we are all subject to change.?"Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief" This painting was created last autumn, the fall is always the time for life contemplation and re-evaluation for me. Although I love the beauty and calmness of autumn it always brings a touch of sadness reminding me of the transience of life. And yet it is not a sad painting, on the contrary, it is about life and beauty which we must enjoy whilst it lasts and which reminds us to live in the moment.?
