They call puffins "tammie nories" in Shetland, and I think, in Orkney. This painting was inspired by several visits to Sumburgh Head during our first Shetland holiday in 2009. I often try to get away from the convention of the canvas rectangle in a frame. This painting started out as a kind of banner in poles, but I eventually framed it in Unst driftwood. Presented in this unusual way, it sold in that year's Keswick Society of Art exhibition at Theatre by the Lake. I still have a nice roll of canvas & some driftwood to make another one like this, should anyone want one!
