This painting is open to the viewers’ interpretations. It can be the lamentation of a man mourning the death of a member of his family that succumbed to the death of coronavirus. Watching the soul of a loved one breaking free from the agony of life, or is it the lamentation of an abusive husband watching his wife break free from the abusive relationship or can it be the lamentation of a father whose daughter ran away from home? The father of the run-away daughter believed he and his wife provided their daughter with all that should make her happy and comfortable at “golden” home. Their daughter perceived their “golden” home, their Godly discipline and guidance as a “golden cage” laced with stems of thorns from which she needs to break free.
The father’s emotion evokes the poem below.
MY LITTLE BIRD 29906
My little bird flew away.
Her where about I do not know.
Fear of her safety and her welfare
Gripped my heart.
Hoping and praying
All is well with her.
My little bird flew away.
Trapped, re-occurring habit.
She could not sway.
Breaking her heart and mine
Outside alluring
Over her father’s love prevailed
Beating her wings against the cage
Eagerly longing to fly away.
My little bird flew away.
Out of the secure and safety, I know.
Into the world unknown
Where evil predators
Prey on defenceless ones
Valiantly in vain, I fought to keep her in.
As I fret and worried
The Spirit within calms me down
Let go and let God.
My little bird, fly; fly away.
Spread your wings far and wide.
Out of my sight but not out of my mind.
Out of my hands; not out of God’s hands
Into His everlasting arms, I leave you.
