“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17: 7-8
This painting is to celebrate the 30th birthday and the wedding of my beautiful daughter from the Ayandokun’s root. The year 2020 and 2021 are thorny years globally with the prevailing deadly pandemic. While these years are deadly and thorny years for some people, they are celebrative and Rosy years for my beautiful daughter as she celebrated her 30th birthday and started married life with the man she loves. This painting is titled “Dammy: The Beauty and the Thorns” for this reason.
One of the pictures of her birthday celebration in which she wore a pink dress influenced this painting. As I do not like to copy picture but rather create an image that the camera cannot produce, I chose to create the portrait of Dammy with a message and prayers. Painting her as a Pink rose with the hair of thorns and a smile is to depict that thorns around the stems of roses never inhibit roses from blooming so nothing in life will inhibit her from blooming and smiling. The heart-shaped earring is a message of love from me and of her husband’s love.
My prayers are that as a beautiful rose that was germinated and grown with love and care from our family’s garden now re-planted with Deji and the family of Akinyemi, she will forever enjoy the tender loving care of Deji and her new family. I pray that she will continue to put her trust and hope in the Lord; “she will be like a tree planted by the waters”. She will never know dryness but continue to bloom all seasons.
