“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” Genesis 3:6
According to the Holy Bible, the first couple were living innocently and in perpetual bliss before they ate the forbidden fruit (apple). Prior to this incident, everything was good and the couple had good fellowship with their creator. This act of disobedience severed relationship between the first couple and God, their maker. Things went downhill for the first couple and their descendants, the human race, from that time. Sin came into the human race, it causes them to hide from hearing the voice of God. This painting illustrates the fall and the redemption of the human race.
This title – “sHe bites the Apple” is meant to be provocative. It is to provoke question like “Why blame Eve and not Adam?” The way I wrote “sHe” is to show the two pronouns as one instead of writing He/she bite the apple.
In my usual unique style, I made up Adam and Eve figures with roses and stems of thorns. I painted Adam’s figure in Auguste Rodin’s the “thinker” pose with partly eating apple in his hand depicting his remorse after biting the apple. I added a touch of humour by painting a squirrel and a cat with their jaw-dropping expressions to show their surprise to human’s disobedience to their creator by biting the forbidden apple. The blood of Christ flowing from the cross towards the figure of Adam illustrates Christians’ belief that the blood of Christ washed away the sin of Adam to reconcile God and human race.
