About this artwork

This painting is based in North Cornwall, England and is Boscastle Harbour. This is a natural harbour, and the two harbour walls were added in 1584 by Sir Richard Grenville of HMS Revenge.

In 2004 there was a freak flash flood, and this little harbour was submerged under 9 foot of water. Approximately 50 cars were lost, the bridge was swept away, the sewage system burst and many of the buildings were destroyed. 91 people were rescued and not one life was lost and there were no major injuries.

The village has been completely rebuilt, and is visited by many tourists each year.
