just before it closed making a lie of George Osbourne's 'northern powerhouse' I visited it and saw it working for one last time. This is one of a series of paintings I intend to make based on this structure which is now a sculpture rather that a working furnace. My own father was a steel worker after the war and seemed to be out of work every time the tories were in power. Nothing new here then.
