Staithes Beck offers a safe haven for the local fishermen, and I often watch them negotiate a maze of ropes and shallows before they eventually reach their moorings.
In this painting I have tried to show the end of the fishing day, with an evening high tide, as one man returns to the shore. The small white tender in the foreground waits for the return of another boat.
