When I was a boy I spent many hours watching my father, a superb portrait painter, at work. My art teacher at school was president of the Wolverhampton Society of Artists and a wonderful teacher, apart from that I am more or less self taught through reading about and studying the work and techniques of various artists from the Impressionists to Jackson Pollock and the modernists. In addition to this I am a member of a group of local artist with whom I continue to give, take and share all things creative, learning all the time.
I prefer working in oils but I also paint in acrylics and pastels. I paint wildlife and birds in particular and I have had a book published containing thirty plus poems about wild birds with each one illustrated by myself. I also love to paint landscapes and am very much influenced by the Victorian landscape artists such as di Breanski and Constable. Currently I am working on a range of paintings which I term as my "Conservation" range. Bordering on the surreal in style, my intention is to draw attention to the destruction of natural habitats across the globe, both on land and at sea and it's effect on the various species of wildlife that suffer from the effects of deforestation, pollution, plastics and the use of pesticides and herbicides.
