I was inspired to paint this after the economy crashed. People with wealth panicked en masse. But they're the ones who weren't really affected in their day to day lives. I wanted to use monochrome to paint my subjects, to reflect the quality of well-heeled sameness. And they all have umbrellas, even though for them it isn't raining.
