I have sold a few donkey paintings and following a previous portrait of these two donkeys in winter snow, I decided that a buttercup background might be a nice contrast. I took the reference photo in spring as they live locally to me - it is always good to see them as I drive to Ludlow.
This painting is completed using soft pastels and pastel pencils on Artspectrum Colourfix paper. The sharpened pencils create the detail and the background is blended using polystyrene sticks to give the three-dimensional effect to the finished framed painting.
