A painting of Chelsea’s houses at night
Shortlisted for the Art Gemini prize 2018 - London’s global art prize. My shortlisted painting was exhibited at the Menier Gallery in Southwark London in September 2018.
The narrative of night-time
I enjoy focussing on themes like night-time. Shadows come to life and moonlight creates a peaceful feeling.
This painting was inspired by a walk through the streets of Chelsea at night. Artificial light adds a strange but beautiful tinge to buildings, pavements and trees. I love it when people leave their curtains open and lights on, so I can get a glimpse of how they live – it also looks cosy from outside in the street!
