About this artwork

When I worked in London, I would often get the train early into ‘town’ and take a walk before I headed into the office. This particular painting was inspired by a walk around the area of St Paul’s. I'd just walked over the Millennium Bridge and was heading up Peter’s Hill towards the cathedral when I saw these big silver spheres. However I was more interested in the reflections I could get from the spheres, than the spheres themselves. I took several photos and this one caught my attention in particular, when a London bus passed by in the background just as I was taking the photo and another bus was captured in the reflection.

You may remember that I’m not a big fan of straight lines, due to not being very good at them, so to be able to paint St Paul’s with wibbly wobbly lines was quite exciting. I really liked the composition of the sphere cutting through the painting, and yet the two halves are joined by the red of the buses. We also still get a sense of the majestic structure of St Paul’s Cathedral.

Acrylic, oil and enamel on 50x50cm canvas with painted sides.
Also available framed in a high quality white wooden floater frame.
