Whenever people talk about Bosherston in west Wales, they invariably soften their voices, almost in a kind of reverence. A series of connecting waterlily-covered lakes and ponds drifting towards the sea, Bosherston is a magical haven of tranquility. Herons wait, cormorants dive, swans sail, otters melt - the waters are at once clear and translucent, dark and cold, sparkling and timeless. Here I paint slowly, building up layers of paint to capture the slowness of the place; the reflections, the oak woods behind, the tapestries on the surface. I could never get bored of painting here.
