“My work to date has been mainly based on animals, originally in particular Scottish wildlife. I have been fortunate to have travelled on research trips to photograph and sketch animals, to study animals in their natural habitat is what I love to do. In 2022, I visited the Masai Mara, Kenya; in 2019, I visited Finland and in 2011, I visited Madhya Pradesh, India at the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. These trips have provided me with an abundance of inspiration to produce paintings of the animals that I have studied. Inspiration also comes to me from closer to home including Edinburgh Zoo, Camperdown Park in Dundee and the Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig, near Kingussie and of course the countryside around me as well as the birds, butterflies and bees in my garden. I predominately paint in oil on canvas, sometimes with the background of the canvas blank to draw the focus purely on the animal and sometimes introducing a suggestion of the landscape. Capturing the character and soul of the animal in their eyes and the softness of the fur or feather on the beast, is what I endeavour to create in my work
