A portrait of my sister worked on a manipulated and stitched linen canvas. The piece represents her role as guardian of the family history our family name was Birch - hence the trees. The parcels each contain a piece of silk printed with the name of an immediate family member. some remains of parcels are scattered in the undergrowth and the linking threads go back in into the trees.
The piece is worked in a loose and gestural manner with some areas boosted with the addition of silk mixed in with the oil paint.
