Over the years I have painted a large variety of subjects in most mediums. Now I concentrate on what I believe I do best - watercolour landscapes of the North Country. My aim is to capture the rugged feeling of the fells, castles and crags and the freshness of the wild open spaces. Portaying this movement and dynamism is the challenge for me.
I often use other mediums together with the watercolours, such as pen and ink, charcoal, gouache and wax resists to get this energy into my work. Photographic accuracy is not what I want. It is to paint a recognizable scene but utilising those beautiful abstract qualities that can be achieved with this wonderful fluid medium.
After early retirement from the printing industry I gained BA and MA degrees in Fine Art at Sunderland University.
