I am a Norfolk based artist working in oils and encaustic paint. The ancient use of coloured wax medium has fascinated me for many years and I am constantly amazed by the intensity of colour and luminosity of the finished painted surface. I mix hot beeswax, damar resin and pigment to create geometric abstract paintings, pushing a 3000-year-old medium to look new and contemporary.
When I am not working with hot wax, my preferred medium is oil paint. My oil paintings are mainly inspired by landscapes, real and imagined. I have studied a range of oil painting techniques and attempt to harness the ‘traditional’ and combine this with my own individual approach. My aim is to convey a sense of place, rather than a true representation.
My art practice has been enriched by thirty plus years exposure to teaching art and design in schools and colleges to a broad range of students. Having retired from teaching, I now have the luxury, at last, to fully explore my own creativity and to keep pushing boundaries.
