The autumn colours of dark and light browns rising from the grey river mud are soft and even toned for a cool pastel room. When walking through the Barking -Newham nature reserve one always has to pause to visit the promintory that overlooks the tidal river Roding. In autumn when looking to the right there remains the remnants of the brave railway bridge project that was designed at the turn of the century to move coal to Barking. Due to mechanical reasons the project did not succeed. The remains of the tracks still remain in the river bed and can be seen at low tide. Oddly it is a romantic mystery view for the newcomer amidst the golden reeds in the autumn colours.
