Clare Davies

I offer original watercolour paintings and prints to enchant and delight in my nostalgic, semi-abstract and textural print style.

I am an artist living in a quaint cottage in Essex, UK, with my partner and three cats.

My journey began with a BA Degree in Fashion and Textiles at Winchester School of Art in the 80s. After a career in graphic design, I left to follow a dream of painting, reigniting my passion in 2019.

Amidst the challenges of the 2020 pandemic, I discovered through art play a distinctive watercolour technique characterized by vibrant, semi-abstract compositions, echoing childhood escapades and a love for nature. I studied creative painting extensively, but primarily, with the multi-talented artist Esté MacLeod.

My signature style is not traditional watercolour and has developed through a love for printed marks. I try to recreate these marks with intricate layered textures, with masking fluid, dip pens, twigs, and sponges, creating a dynamic mix of form and colour. I add a touch of gold leaf to my originals to give them some richness and a sense of past artefacts found on a treasure hunt!

My artistic goal is to encapsulate the enchantment of nature within my semi-abstract paintings, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the tranquillity and wonder it offers as well as glimpse of a magic world to explore, a respite from the stress of modern life.

I like to work with the seasons and use engaging and energetic colours that are grounded in nature. My colours are there to uplift and delight you. I aim to create a vibrant and charming impression.
