Jane Birks

I am an animal and pet portrait artist from Congleton, Cheshire. I am an animal lover, having always had cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, reptiles (my sons!!) and horses for many years, currently just one crazy whippet and a grumpy cat.
I have always loved drawing and painting but ended up with disappointing art grades at school and college. However in 2015 a friend asked if I would have a go at painting her friends dog as a gift, I did and it was well received and I gradually gained the confidence to do more.
I have painted hundreds of portraits since and absolutely love the idea of my art being on someone's wall, often a memorial portrait, giving them a permanent reminder of their beloved friends. I paint primarily in gouache on watercolour board, particularly for the pet portraits. I have more recently been using acrylics, creating larger wildlife paintings, challenging myself every time to improve. I have various original pieces for sale and also prints.
