A detail from an Official Painting of the 'Sovereign's Parade' at the RAF College, Cranwell. The result of a number of visits to rehearsals (all held at exactly the time of day as the event itself) and the use of stand-ins for the main subjects... who were then sketched separately. The scene depicted is compressed in time and space for compositional reasons. The viewpoint is low due to HM's stature! The original work hangs in the building depicted in the background.
