To me, landscapes are living entities that are powerful, spiritual and emotional. From the sorrowful peaks of remote mountains to the mighty stir of a coastal swell, the experience of encountering such terrain strikes the senses and the soul.
My paintings explore the unique personality arising from such environments, and seek to capture the living essence that characterises our land.
I am most at home in mountains and on coastlines, and travel extensively to experience different shores and terrains, but am inevitably drawn back to the Scottish highlands & Islands, the Cornish seashore, and my native Jurassic Coast.
Landscapes reflect who we are. They communicate with us in a language that is wordless yet unmistakable. My paintings are, in essense, an emotional portraiture of the land, depicting both the seen and the unseen, and capture the character of the terrain as a living breathing anthropomorphic entity in its own right.
