One of my home region's southern-most landmarks - the whitewashed stone horse (often believed to be chalk) - and one I've interpreted time and again in paintings. It of course belongs to the stunning British family of similar 'land art' found up and down the country. This is itself a project for any artist to get their teeth into on a national scale - the interpreting and re-evaluating of the nation's land art, ancient and new - now there's one for an individual and the Arts Council to seize and do something with! I alone am focusing attention on my home territory's 'land art' sites as I proceed as a painter. The 'White Horse of Kilburn', as it is also known, I have utilized since 1995, the year I joined the Cleveland Art Society, and I'm not finished with it yet, hah! Its seasonal change keeps giving me new ideas.
