This and a few others, you might note, have evolved over a couple of years or so - hence the 2005-8 date above. Often my paintings go through a little journey to maturity. Represented here, through its shimmering effect of violets, blues and greens is a woodland aspect familiar to me since boyhood. Brambles, bracken, bluebells, acorns, cones, berries and of course the wildlife, have all played into my consciousness since the 1960s via hikes with my father. A 'musical score of painted actions', (hah) it is more than a depiction of a scene; it is full of texture and playful pattern.
