An image evocative of the many hundreds of apples, pear and plum trees I helped to harvest in my starving student days in the huge orchards around the Kent town of Maidstone. I gave a smaller version of this painting to my model which partially depicted the tree subtly heart-like in shape. It has an emotional link for me also to the Ultravox song, "I Can't Stay Long," from the 1978 album, "Systems of Romance." ... "I need to glide in the long green light of a July afternoon, sliding down a vague conversation."
