This, and its sister picture, result from combinations of collected photographs and on the spot drawing and colour notations. I often operate like this and I'm able to 'hit' many places in one week. In recent years I have come out of a phase of not producing 'site specific' work, of which this picture is one. It is a combination of observed elements to make a painting and to give the feeling of a British place. I now commit myself as an artist to actually recording and interpreting places on the map, and artworks like this one take a valuable position within the body of my life's output.
