Silk painting has been the core of my art for over 20 years, expressed as large panels or wearable pieces. As a painter, photographer and film-makers, the insight and curiosity led me to explore the intricacies of this amazing natural fibre, find its voice, and capture the beauty that unfold before me as the act of painting progresses. I have also taught art, devised courses for mature students and run workshops at schools, community centres and even hospitals in Buckinghamshire. I occasionally work with other media and join collaboration projects in contemporary art.
Silk is a way of life for me, something of a journey of the years. Painting, as I see it, cannot be without a dialogue with the fabric and reflection on its nuances and how it chooses to respond; at the right moment, an exquisite iridescent glow last only a few seconds, long enough to be captured as a memory. This fascinating quality is in nature, in all elements, in people and that is where I find inspiration.
