I recently moved from Lavenham in Suffolk to the market town of Sudbury just 5 minutes away from the Gainsborough Art Gallery. Surrounded by beautiful water meadows, rolling landscapes, and creative people, I am spoilt for choice when choosing a subject. When the weather is good I like to go out and sketch in pencil or watercolour, before commencing work in oils. However, I enjoy the idea of experimentation and have used sand, talcum powder, and hair gel as a medium along with more traditional oils and acrylics, and scrumpled paper, and fabric as painting tools, alongside the more traditional brushes. I mainly paint landscapes, although I have been commissioned to provide illustrations ranging from food labels and restaurant menus, to flowers for weddings, and will paint an interesting face when the mood takes me! I paint both abstract and figurative, although my true love is Impressionism with the use of the palette knife to create impasto. I am greatly inspired by the works of Edward Seago and J M W Turner, as well as the great French Impressionists.
Lately, I have been producing custom drawings and illustrations for commercial clients, some of the art and design has become greetings cards also. I paint some pictures with great amusement especially when I create a copy from a "great master", making sure it looks different and a fake.
Set designs and props for theatre's has been great fun and a privilage these last few years. This led to costume design and then making the actual costumes but I always put my artistry and design work first. If time permits, I like to assist/help 'Not for profit groups and organisations'
