As I trained in fashion and textile design I love colour and pattern. I've always drawn, sketched and painted but only recently have I been able to spend more time on my own art and a few years ago I focused on contemporary botanical painting. I enjoy spending the time to study the shapes and forms found in nature and plants, from emerging buds to dried seedheads, feathers, seaweeds, and shells. Painting mainly in watercolour and pen and ink.
I have exhibited and sold work at the Society of Botanical Artists show in the Mall galleries, and as part of a group exhibition at the RHS, receiving a two silver medals.
As I have now moved from London to Somerset I recently participated in a successful Open Studios during Somerset Art Weeks.
I have also paint still life in acrylic, still featuring fruit, vegetables, plants alongside with everyday objects, or pottery from my collection.
A lot of my paintings I use for my cards and homeware range which you can see on www.oakleyfinch.co.uk
